White Plains police charged an off-duty New York City Corrections captain Sunday in connection with an alleged attempted assault on a woman.
Police said the incident happened in the Waller-Maple parking lot. Police received calls about a man striking a woman with a gun.
Two men intervened to de-escalate the situation. They were later identified as an off-duty Yonkers police officer and an off-duty Westchester County police officer. They were able to disarm the suspect, who was later identified as Tony Montague.
Montague faces multiple charges including attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. He has been suspended for four weeks without pay.
Yonkers police are reviewing the actions taken by their officer in the arrest, but believe they were "appropriate, authorized, and within department policy."
