There is relief in South Nyack today, after Rosie O'Donnell's daughter was found safe in New Jersey after having been missing for a week.
Chelsea O'Donnell, 17, is safely back home in South Nyack, but police say the disappearance is still under investigation. "At this point, there is no criminality, there's no charges filed, or arrests made. But there are going to be some follow-up interviews," says South Nyack Police Sgt. Dan Wilson.
Wilson briefed reporters this morning at Village Hall on the search for O'Donnell's daughter. The comedian and talk show host posted on social media Tuesday that her 17-year-old daughter had not been home for a week.
There was concern Chelsea, who suffers from mental illness, had not been taking her medicine since she left home. During the Wednesday morning briefing, Wilson said Chelsea was located in Barnegat, New Jersey, Tuesday afternoon.
Wilson says one key in finding Chelsea was social media, after O'Donnell posted that her daughter was missing. "She was classified as a runaway. We didn't believe that she was in any danger during this process because there were several of the third party contacts."
Police report that while Chelsea is in good condition, the reason why she left home is still not known.
