Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer is being accused of assaulting a woman at a hotel in midtown Manhattan, according to police.
NYPD officials say a woman is claiming that Spitzer choked her inside a suite at the Plaza Hotel on Saturday. They say the 25-year-old woman is his girlfriend and may have been trying to break up with him.
A spokesman for Spitzer is denying the allegation. The former governor has not been charged with any crime and has yet to talk to police.
Spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 over a prostitution scandal.
