The NYPD is ramping up its presence at synagogues in the city after a car rammed into the
Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
Video shows a driver of a Honda with New Jersey plates ram into the doors of the Chabad multiple times. Police say the incident happened at 8:45 p.m.
Officers working a security detail at the Chabad responded to the crash, ordered the driver to get out of the car and arrested him. The Bomb Squad also responded to the incident to conduct a full sweep of the location and deemed it safe.
CH Shomrim took to X stating the driver was previously arrested in New Jersey after trying to enter a synagogue, leading authorities to believe this was an act of retaliation.
Police say there were no weapons found on the scene and the crash is being investigated as a hate crime.
