Nyack officials said they isolated the water main break on South Broadway on Sunday and have restored water to many people in the village.
The water main break shut down South Broadway between Cedar Hill and Voorhis avenues.
According to officials, the break was "big enough to lift and shift the pavement." It was first reported to Orangetown police around 6:45 a.m.
Several people, like Michael Lockett, said they were impacted by it.
"We have low water pressure...and I heard about discoloration, but our house has filters so we're not seeing that," Lockett said.
Nyack Water Department said service was restored to everyone except those along some parts of South Broadway. Final repairs are expected within the next few hours. No boil water advisory was issued.
Mayor Joe Rand warned residents that they should be prepared for longer-term traffic disruptions, even after the water is turned back on. He encouraged people to subscribe to the water department's alert notification system to get the latest updates.
