Fundraising numbers since the Moreland Commission scandal broke are in, and it appears the controversy is providing a boost to both the Democratic and Republican gubernatorial campaigns.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign announced Friday that it has raised more than $600,000 for the filing period between July 15 and August 8. While the scandal did not appear to weaken Cuomo's ability to raise money, it may be starting to drain his campaign war chest.
The governor's campaign spent $3.2 million during the same period, including $1.1 million on a barrage of TV ads, as he tried to fend off controversy that erupted over the handling of his anti-corruption commission.
The Moreland controversy has been good for Rob Astorino's fundraising as well. His campaign says it raised $550,000 in the 10 days after the story broke on July 23.
Since he is not involved in a primary, Astorino was not required to file a financial disclosure statement on Friday.
