A North Salem community is in mourning following the death of a local socialite.
Lois Colley, 83, was found dead Monday afternoon in the laundry room of her 300-acre compound, Windswept. Police say the beloved philanthropist, socialite and family matriarch died of blunt force trauma.
Police say a fire extinguisher was missing from the home, and it may be the murder weapon. They have not named any suspects or a possible motive.
At a ceremony Wednesday meant to honor Veterans Day, the community took a moment to remember Colley. Longtime resident Pastor Tim Wagner says he hopes the suspect is brought to justice swiftly.
Colley's husband, who owns a string of McDonald's franchises, is not a suspect in the case, according to police.
The Colleys' farm was often used for fox hunts in the upscale neighborhood, but authorities have not disclosed whether they think Colley knew her killer.
