Abortion and reproductive health service providers could get more protection under a bill that passed the state Senate.

The bill aims to safeguard New York reproductive health care providers through telehealth to serve patients seeking abortion and reproductive health services, in and out of the state.

State Sen. Shelly Meyer sponsored the bill with hopes to make abortions and reproductive health care more accessible.

"There are many women who can't afford to have little children and want to simply have a telehealth visit with a doctor,” Meyer says.

However, some organizations say the bill could do more harm to women.

"It's really a disservice to the women and the girls. The answer is to be there, before and after the pregnancy, the crisis pregnancy, so no one has to lose a baby,” says Eileen Peterson, of the Rockland County Catholic Coalition.

The bill already passed the Senate and it now must move through the Assembly.
