A new law set to crack down on drag racing in Yonkers will go into effect this weekend.
The push to halt drag racing was sparked by the death of Michael Nolan, who was killed along Central Avenue two years ago.
Mayor Mike Spano and the Nolan family announced that the legislation will take effect on July 1. The new law will apply to any road or highway in Yonkers.
"I speak from the heart because I want to get it across to people that we can make a bigger difference in our community, says James Nolan, Michael's brother. "I don't want [anyone] to suffer like we did. Nobody should have to bury their son or daughter."
Yonkers police say the new law is the first they know of in Westchester. They say a similar one was put in place in Suffolk County, Long Island.
