The trauma center at the Westchester Medical Center is undergoing a complete renovation that will help both patients and their families.
The renovations will include a locker room for visiting families to store belongings and shower. It will also feature partitions for patients.
The driving force behind the trauma center's new look was a Chappaqua family that spent the last month of their son's life at Westchester Medical Center.
Evan Lieberman died at the facility four years ago, and his family never left his side. They were sleeping on an air mattress on their hospital floor.
"Doctors didn't even have a place to consult and everyone was on top of everyone else," said Evan's father Ben Lieberman. "People were learning about a family member being a paraplegic right next to someone else."
The Liebermans say the new intensive care unit opening next month helps them pay tribute to their son.
A fundraiser for the new trauma center will be held Wednesday at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor.
