New traffic pattern to begin on North Avenue Bridge in New Rochelle Wednesday

A new traffic pattern is set to begin Wednesday in New Rochelle at the North Avenue Bridge over I-95.
Cars, buses and other vehicles with three axles or less can use the two lanes in the center of the bridge with one in each direction.
Trucks with four or more axles won't be able to go through so there will be a signed truck detour.
It's stage one of a three-year project to replace the outer part of the bridge.
Drivers won't be able to make left turns from North Avenue to Garden Street or vice versa.
The Thruway Authority says first responders will be able to get on the bridge whenever they need.
The Thruway Authority advises leaving extra time or considering a different route.
Most of the project should be finished in 2025, with a wider bridge.
