Parents in the Bronx and the city joined home-based day care providers to rally against new state regulations that may force families to find other day care for its children.
The State Office of Children and Family Services has revised its regulations and now requires home-based day care centers have two exits in the event of an emergency. Many centers in the Bronx and the city have been issued violations under the new rule and may be forced to close. Licensed day care providers say the law needs to be rewritten to take into consideration the landscape of New York City housing.
Parents say if their neighborhood day care centers close, it will be extremely hard to find another place where they can trust their children will be safe. The State Office of Children and Family Services says home-based child care providers will be able to appeal their violations.
