A New Rochelle school opened Tuesday despite a student there having the latest confirmed case of MRSA. However, parents wanted reassurance from school officials that their kids are safe.Parents lined up at Trinity Elementary School to hear what administrators had to say before deciding to send their children to class. Officials told parents cleaning crews were brought in and worked overnight disinfecting the building. They assured parents their children would be safe. Also, school health officials say they will continue to monitor students for any other outbreaks.

The parents of a girl in kindergarten at the school called the district Monday to say their child was hospitalized with the antibiotic-resistant staph infection. The girl apparently had a lesion that wasn't detected and she was in class for several days with it. Parents were given a letter about the case at dismissal Monday and the girl's classroom is currently off limits. The school's medical director said she doesn't expect there to be an outbreak, but said it is possible other students could come down with MRSA.
