New Rochelle residents are reacting to former Baltimore Ravens running back and New Rochelle native Ray Rice winning the appeal of his indefinite suspension from the NFL.
An arbitrator ruled Friday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did not have the right to suspend Rice a second time after video surfaced of him punching his then-fiancee at an Atlantic City casino back in September.
Rice was released by the Ravens when the video went public.
Residents in New Rochelle had mixed feelings about the ruling. Many say they are torn between supporting a hometown hero and condemning a case of domestic violence.
In a statement, Rice said he made a mistake and accepts full responsibility for his actions. He says he will continue to improve himself and learn from his mistakes.
Rice is now eligible to sign a new contract, meaning he could potentially be signed by a team before the season's end.
