People living in New Rochelle are on edge after learning a rabid cat was spotted in their neighborhood.
The Westchester Health Department issued the rabies alert last week after finding the cat near Kress Avenue between Webster and Lincoln avenues.
Officials say a red tabby cat was aggressive toward other animals and even people.
The health department is also concerned that the cat may also have been in contact with a group of stray cats in the neighborhood.
Department officials say rabid animals can act overly aggressive or unusually tame. They ask that people stay away from any stray and report suspicious behavior to their office at (914) 813-5000.
