The woman responsible for taking care of eight kids for a New Rochelle family in the 1940s got a big surprise Friday when she was reunited with four of the girls she used to care for.
Pearl Quarles, 88, served as a regular baby sitter for the Leak family. The kids of the Leak family included Hazel Pulliam, her four brothers and three sisters.
Pulliam, the oldest sibling in the Leak family, says Quarles was a good caregiver.
Pulliam invited Quarles to a luncheon with her sisters. It was the first time Quarles had seen some of the Leak sisters since the 1940s.
"This is a lifetime," says Pulliam. "This is something to keep and remember."
Quarles was just a teen when she and her sister were asked to take care of the Leak kids.
"It was a surprise," says Quarles. "For me it's a glorious surprise. My life was made richer by knowing the Leak family."
