Moving up day for some fifth-graders in New Rochelle has taken on a special meaning.
About 100 students from Jefferson Elementary School on Weyman Avenue are heading to middle school. But before they go, the children and adults raised $800 to donate to the American Cancer Society.
Since the school's theme is a "Community that Cares," they felt that they had to give back. "We asked people to come in with extra change, to drop it in the bins and we raised a lot of money," says graduate Nora Shefferman.
The graduates were encouraged to make new friends and take on the new challenges and experiences that they will encounter in middle school.
