After weeks indoors with no end in sight, Warwick Drive-In owner Beth Seeber-Wilson says the popular 1950s pastime is making a comeback as the perfect solution to having fun during the coronavirus crisis.
The concept even caught Gov. Andrew Cuomo's attention over the weekend.
"Drive-in theaters? That's a good question," he said.
Cuomo's top aides didn't completely shoot down the idea, but said it could potentially put workers and movie-goers at risk.
It's a concern shared by some people in town after the theater posted on Facebook about hoping to reopen.
"We are doing such a good job of social distancing and this is just defeating the purpose," said Deborah Bonsignore.
Resident Lisa Nicosia said while it's a great idea, it's not worth it at this time, and maybe it should be revisited in a month.
While reopening has not been approved yet, the drive-in is gearing up for some 21st century, post-COVID-19 changes when it does - including adding cashless apps for ticket sales and concessions.
