Nearly 100 people rallied outside Good Counsel Academy in White Plains to prevent the sale of the school.
Students, parents and staff at the school, located on North Broadway, were protesting the school's impending closure and plans to move the retired clergy who live on campus out of White Plains.
Parents are upset at the leadership of the clergy, saying they recently turned down a viable bid from a local church to purchase the property because that bidder would not agree to relocate.
If the school closes, more than 80 nuns and 400 students will have nowhere to go.
The sisters have to vacate by July 1. The sisters who own the 16-acre White Plains property are trying to sell it and move to the Old Blessed Sacrament school building in New Rochelle.
A spokesperson says many of the nuns are getting older, making it more difficult to maintain the campus.
As for the recent bid, the spokesperson says they are evaluating many bids and are hoping to get something resolved that will address both the needs of the school and sisters.
