Hundreds of people gathered today to say goodbye to a Yonkers man who died while saving a 5-year-old boy with autism from the Hudson River.
The service was held at Golden Sword International Fellowship Church in Bronxville.
Boyce "Scoop" Coleman, 43, died a hero Sept. 7 after jumping into the murky water of the Hudson River at the JFK Marina in Yonkers. He was there for a family reunion when he learned the boy had jumped into the water.
Coleman rescued Stephen Jones by passing him to another adult as he sunk into the depths of choppy river.
While many are saddened by the sudden loss, they say his heroism is to be admired and honored.
Coleman's heroism was recognized by the Westchester County Board of Legislators in a resolution presented to the family today.
Following his funeral service, Coleman was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings.
