Mount Vernon's Memorial Field is on a path to a brighter future after years of waste and debris piling up on the field.
Mount Vernon Mayor Andrew Wallace is saying the mound of dirt that has been preventing any progress for revitalization is about 30% gone.
He says every day, about 50 truckloads of dirt are being removed from the area. He is expecting half of the mound to be gone by the end of the day Tuesday.
The city kicked off the remediation project of more than $2 million to get rid of the waste for construction a few months ago.
As soon as it is cleaned up, plans to move forward with building a new field will begin.
