Mount Vernon's 2023 City Fest celebrates 50 years of hip-hop

Mount Vernon's 2023 City Fest took to Gramatan Avenue Saturday, where some of music's most talented artists took to the stage in celebration of hip-hop's 50th anniversary.
The event was also a celebration of health, art and unity that brought people of all ages together.
Resident Rabbi Nathanya Halevi said he couldn't be prouder of his city and its undeniable link to hip-hop music. He said the event is a great opportunity for Mount Vernon to claim its part of its contributions to the development of the genre.
Organizers said City Fest was not only about the music, but it also gave parents an opportunity to show their kids the best that Mount Vernon has to offer.
Vanessa Simmons said she drove an hour from Connecticut with her son to celebrate hip-hop culture in the city where she grew up. She said she wanted him to learn about the community that influenced her as much as to see the exciting performances.
