The City of Mount Vernon is providing $400,000 in financial assistance to local small businesses still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard presented 18 businesses with the money from the American Rescue Plan Act.
The act is the city’s latest effort to beautify and strengthen the downtown business district.
Officials say they hope the initiative also attracts new businesses to the area.
