Officials in Mount Vernon released their "Summer of Safety" plan on Wednesday.
"We wanted to make sure that we were coordinating our efforts, so every day during the week, and at different times of the day, people could find activities that were available," Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said.
City officials said the plan is designed to promote public safety through programming and partnerships.
The approach had Police Chief Marcel Olifiers feeling optimistic about the summer.
"Overall, for the last year, crime is down right now, close to 10%, violent crime. So, knock on wood, we'll keep that going," Olifiers said.
The mayor said the city will also host a community conservation event to get people talking about public safety.
Community members News 12 spoke with shared if they have any concerns about the season.
"No, I'm not concerned about violence in Mount Vernon," resident Kevon Brown said.
