A Mount Vernon father called 911 Tuesday morning because his son was feeling ill, only to find out hours later his son was shot, authorities say.
?The victim came home, complained he had a headache, and wanted to take a shower,? says Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong. ?The victim took a shower, then vomited, which spurred the father to call an ambulance.?
Police were able to find the 24-year-old victim's home in Mount Vernon and interviewed his family. The victim?s father says his son returned home from his girlfriend?s house at around 1:30 a.m. and never told him he was wounded. The victim also did not say anything to the EMTs who arrived at the scene. The man was brought to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, where the gunshot wound was finally discovered.
?Normally, we rely on the victim himself to tell us they're wounded,? Chong says. ?This particular victim never told us at any time.?
Mount Vernon police say they have yet to talk to the victim, who is listed in critical condition. They are working with the NYPD to find out where the man was shot to determine which police department has jurisdiction in the case.
