News 12 has an exclusive look at what neighbors are calling an "attempted home break-in" in Mount Vernon. It comes as surrounding communities in the Hudson Valley investigate similar crimes.
"You're home in bed sleeping and three, four men are trying to break into your house, that's scary," says Mount Vernon resident Carolann Villara-Santiago.
Villara-Santiago says in mid February, a group of men tried to break into some cars early in the morning on Commonwealth Avenue.
However, things quickly escalated. Her neighbor's security footage shows those men trying to get inside her neighbor's home, through the windows.
"Three of them walk up on the porch, one of them which you really can't see in frame, actually got on a chair and started breaking into the window," says Villara-Santiago.
Fortunately, no one got inside the home.
"The person that was in the car looking out, was beeping the horn and you see them running," Villara-Santiago explains.
Over the last month, multiple home burglaries have been reported in neighboring towns and villages, like Eastchester and Bronxville.
In some cases, the burglars broke into homes, stole a key fob and took off with a car.
There's no word if the cases are connected or if anyone has been caught.
Police advice homeowners to make sure security cameras are working, lock up and keep your key fobs out of sight.
