Mount Vernon's mayor-elect Richard Thomas says trucks have been illegally dumping dirt in Memorial Field off of East Sanford Boulevard in the city.
The dumping has been going on for the past week, Thomas says.
He says he doesn't know where the dirt came from, but says its removal could be an extra expense on taxpayers' money.
Thomas and Westchester County Legislator Lyndon Williams filed an injunction against outgoing Mayor Ernie Davis, blocking him from conducting any work on the property.
News 12 contacted Davis, who pointed an accusing finger at Williams and Thomas. He says the two men have been conducting a "charade" to get the people of Mount Vernon to believe they have a plan for Memorial Field. He also accused Williams of stalling funding for a planned overhaul of the park.
The park has been closed for the past six years, and area residents say they hope the political fighting can end and that it will reopen.
