Army Staff Sergeant Kyu Hyuk Chay, 34, was killed last week when an explosive device detonated near his combat patrol. Chay?s parents own New Castle Cleaners in Chappaqua. They say they are proud of their son and know he died doing what he loved. Workers at the cleaners remember Chay as a brave and intelligent soldier, who spoke Korean, Spanish and Arabic.
Chay is also survived by his wife and two young children who live in North Carolina. Chay?s funeral will take place in North Carolina and plans are being made for a burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Chay?s parents will have a memorial ceremony in Mount Kisco for their son on November 19.
