New City firefighter Will McCue, was released Wednesday from a Bronx hospital after severe complications led to multiple amputations.
A motorcade of firefighters, police officers and first responders escorted him from Montefiore Medical Center to transition to a rehab center at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw.
The 19-year-old firefighter was hospitalized in February with the flu, but ended up in critical condition after going into septic shock. Doctors were forced to amputate his hands, left foot and right leg.
His fellow firefighters stuck by his side throughout it all and held a fundraiser Tuesday at the Rockland Country Club to help alleviate some of his upcoming medical costs.
McCue released a video Tuesday thanking everyone for their support.
He still has several months of recovery ahead, but News 12 was told that his goal is to return to his firefighting duties with the New City Fire Department.
