News 12 was able to ride along with the Orangetown Highway Department this Christmas Eve as they cleared away the morning snowfall.
Plow trucks were loading up with salt in Orangeburg before they went to do their routes.
According to the department, Orangetown is the only highway department in Rockland that also clears state roads, which make up a portion of the 200 miles they're responsible for.
News 12 got to ride shotgun to see the roads being cleared firsthand.
"Just go slow," said Cle Davis, who has been with the department for almost a decade. He shared tricks of the trade, saying, "The main thing is, always put the salt in the middle of the road and let it trickle to the side and melt everything off."
The Orangetown Highway Department also clears sidewalks and bus shelters.
