Mother granted dying wish of seeing daughter graduate high school
A Washingtonville High School senior made his mother’s wish come true just hours before she passed away from advanced-stage colon cancer.
Cassidy DeLeon, 18, told News 12 that her mother, Elizabeth, always said, “I’m going to make it to your graduation.”
When Elizabeth took a turn for the worse last Friday, Cassidy brought the graduation to her hospital bedside.
"When I walked in in my cap and gown, she had the smallest little smile and her eyes were open," said Cassidy. “"She was basically in a coma. It was a miracle."
The miracle was made possible with the help of her principal who oversaw the ceremony on Monday in front of family and friends.
The 51-year-old passed away just a few hours later.
Cassidy DeLeon will be going to SUNY Orange in the fall and majoring in history. She says it was one of her mother’s favorite subjects.
