The Morris Park Community Association unveiled its new logo Saturday after a run-in with the NYPD forced a redesign.
Three months ago, the NYPD told the group that the old logo looked too much like the NYPD's symbol, and so community group member Duane Spearman designed a new one.
"The look is good, because we kept the shape that we wanted as far as the shield and we incorporated the shaking hands," Spearman says.
The group has protected the community for 35 years by acting as the local eyes and ears of the police. But to continue, the group says it needs the community's help.
"All we're asking is if you can't give time to your community, at least be vigilant," says Al D'Angelo, the group's president. "If you see something that doesn't seem right, call us, call the papers, call 311, 911, the community board, call somebody."
