Newly released dashcam video shows a Pine Plains police cruiser slamming into the back of a stopped vehicle in Dutchess County.

The crash happened earlier this month on Route 199, but the footage was only recently released.

Police say the patrol car rear-ended a driver who had stopped to turn into a driveway.

Investigators say Officer Brian Johnson was behind the wheel of the cruiser.

According to police, Johnson was scanning the shoulder of the roadway and did not realize the vehicle in front of him had come to a stop.

Authorities say there is no evidence that drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving played a role in the crash.

Both officers were taken to the hospital following the collision.

Police say the officer riding in the passenger seat suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
