More than 100 Westchester residents came out to voice their opinion on the proposed county budget for 2012 at the final public hearing tonight.
Those in attendance called for restoration of funding for county-run health centers, nature preserves and county jobs.
Under the proposed $1.69 billion budget, the county would eliminate 367 jobs, including 210 jobs through layoffs.
County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Westchester) says that the layoffs may be avoidable if the county employee union would agree to some concessions.
The union says it is already stretched too thin and that employees shouldn't be forced to balance the budget on their backs.
The budget, which is due by the end of the month, must first be approved by the Democrat-controlled County Board of Legislators.
