A Metro-North train slammed into an unoccupied car on the tracks Wednesday afternoon in Bedford.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at the Green Lane crossing. News 12 is told that the vehicle was abandoned on the tracks after its two occupants saw the train coming and escaped.
According to the MTA, the 43-year-old Orange County woman who got stuck on the tracks is a home health care aide and was driving an 87-year-old female patient. The agency says the driver stopped at the crossing when its signals and gates were activated. She told officials that she was unable to reverse.
About 150 people were on board the train heading north to Bedford Hills at the time. No one was injured.
The collision caused hours of delays on the Metro-North Harlem line as authorities cleared the scene. Schedules returned to close or on schedule by Wednesday night.
Police issued the driver a summons for illegally blocking a railroad crossing.
According to reports, the latest accident comes as Metro-North is considering eliminating more than 400 grade-level rail crossings throughout the MTA's system.
In February 2015, a Metro-North train stuck an SUV at a rail crossing in Valhalla, killing six people. It was the deadliest accident in the railway's history.
