A memorial is growing in Yonkers for the mother and aspiring rapper killed in a weekend crash.
Emajee Jones, 24, was killed Saturday when the car she was driving hit a concrete barrier on Trinity Street. Family members say Jones' 3-year-old daughter, another child and a friend were also inside the car at the time of the crash but were not hurt.
Candles in the form of an E have been placed at the crash site.
Jones was a graduate of Riverside High School and worked at Whole Foods, but those who knew her say her legacy goes beyond that. Known on the music scene as Sheryl Bree, friends say her sound was inspiring.
"Even if you didn't know her, if you heard her music, it would tell you who she was. She never felt complete unless she was rapping and rhyming," says friend Christina Washington.
Police say the crash appears to be an accident but that the medical examiner will determine if there were any other conditions that could have played a role in Jones' death.
Jones' family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and for daughter she left behind.
