Meet the former Mets: Old Timers’ Day returns for first time since 1994
The New York Mets will be hosting their first Old Timers’ Day since 1994 during the 2022 season – bringing together 1960s Mets like Ron Swoboda and 2010s Mets like Daniel Murphy.
Mets chairman, owner and CEO Steve Cohen said that fans wanted the game brought back.
“As we celebrate our 60th Anniversary season, having these legendary players return to the ballpark to hear cheers from Mets fans once again is the perfect way to honor our past,” he said in prepared remarks.
So far, the Mets have announced just some of the roster that will be returning – Frank Thomas (of the original 1962 Mets), Ron Swoboda, Jon Matlack, Felix Millán, Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson, Bobby Ojeda, Robin Ventura, Turk Wendell, Endy Chávez, Cliff Floyd and Daniel Murphy.
Murphy was the most valuable player of the 2015 National League Championship Series and played with the Mets from 2008-2015.
“It will be great to put on a Mets uniform again,” said Murphy. “I’m sure when I hit the field my mind will be racing back to 2015. That was an incredibly special time.”
