With the Democratic primary for Mount Vernon's mayoral race just days away, one candidate is getting a big boost from the city's men in blue.
A day after securing support from the firefighters union, mayoral candidate Richard Thomas has been endorsed by the Mount Vernon Police Benevolent Association.
On Saturday, as Thomas was about to begin a press conference announcing the endorsement of the local Mount Vernon firefighters, supporters of incumbent Mayor Ernie Davis began chanting, honking car horns and descending on the parking lot of the Mount Vernon firehouse.
Thomas is campaigning against the embattled mayor, who is running for a fifth term and is currently on probation after pleading guilty to federal tax evasion charges last year.
The Democratic primary is scheduled to be held this Thursday.
