Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis delivered his State of the City address Wednesday night.
The theme of this year's speech was "much accomplished...much more to achieve."
The mayor acknowledged the city's ongoing battle with violent crime, but cited the police department's increasing ability to solve cases.
Just last month, Davis was sentenced to one year's probation and fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to two counts of tax evasion. The mayor did not address his legal woes during his speech, but instead chose to highlight his accomplishments while in office this year, including his record of attracting economic development to the city.
Davis says one of the key areas the city will be working on moving forward is improving education. He is welcoming the expansion of Westchester Community College as a sign of progress.
