A Middletown man is getting rid of some unwanted house guests: bees that have moved in between the walls of his home.

"I knew they were there," says Brian Paffenroth, who has lived on Bisch Road for years. "They've been there for 10 to 15 years. I didn't think it was as big of a problem."

In fact, he had been sharing his home with an estimated 500,000 bees. When he called beekeepers to help relocate the bees this month, Paffenroth was surprised by what they found once the siding was removed from his house. "Looked like something out of a horror movie," he says. "It was just a big black cloud of bees."

Beekeeper Carl Witschard has already removed tens of thousands of the bees in bee boxes, which were taken to local farms. All of the bees are expected to be safely relocated by next week, which beekeepers say is good because bees are an important part of the ecosystem.

Paffenroth now plans to splurge on new siding for his house.
