Man who jumped into Hudson to help distressed friend remains missing
A man who jumped into the Hudson River Tuesday to try and help a friend in distress remains missing.
Bad weather limited the search for 49-year-old Paul Moschitta on Wednesday, but police continued until Thursday evening.
Police say a group of people was swimming in the river near Victor C. Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie when one person began having trouble. They say Moschitta, who was on shore, ran into the water to help but hasn't been seen since.
"I think they're looking in the wrong place and that the current probably took him somewhere else," says David Reyes, of Poughkeepsie. "Could be on the other side. Could be down, could be up."
The distressed swimmer was rescued by first responders as police launched helicopters and boats to look for Moschitta. Authorities say they also conducted a sonar search.
Police say the search will resume Friday and is expected to last until Sunday.
