A Mount Vernon City Council candidate is planning to sue the New Rochelle Police Department for detaining him last week after he was allegedly found drunk and unconscious with a gun.
Police say Sam Rivers was intoxicated and uncooperative when they found him on the steps of Don Coqui Restaurant on Cedar Street Sunday night. They also say they noticed a registered gun sticking out from the waistband of Rivers' pants.
Rivers denies all allegations and claims he was being "racially profiled" and politically targeted for his association with an outspoken critic of the Westchester district attorney and the mayor of Mount Vernon.
