A Newburgh man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a former intimate partner in a Middletown alleyway earlier this year has been sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office says Gregory Gonzalez, 56, was arrested last April after police were called to an alleyway where a person was screaming for help. Authorities say the victim was found with bruising and swelling to her face.
Gonzalez was found nearby wearing a ski mask, according to authorities, and allegedly refused to comply with police directives before he was taken into custody.
Officials say the victim had a restraining order against Gonzalez and that Gonzalez had three prior felony convictions, including a felony sex offense.
He pleaded guilty to criminal contempt in the first degree and was sentenced to the maximum allowed by law.
