A man was struck and killed while trying to cross the Saw Mill Parkway in Dobbs Ferry Wednesday night.
Police say the accident happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Lawrence Street.
The incident created a traffic jam in the northbound lanes of the parkway that lasted for hours.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at St. John's Riverdale Hospital in Yonkers.
There is a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection, but vehicles tend to travel at fairly high speeds along the parkway. It is unclear whether the victim tried to cross the street when the light was red or green.
Police say the driver who struck the victim remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Police are not yet releasing the identity of the victim pending family notification.
There is no word yet on if there will be any charges filed against the driver.
Investigators do not believe that alcohol was a factor.
