A man is under arrest after causing damage to a police vehicle and fleeing officers during an incident in Poughkeepsie.

Officials were conducting a routine traffic stop on Main Street's 700 block early Sunday when they observed a vehicle swiftly turning into a parking lot. As they approached the vehicle, the driver intentionally rammed into the patrol car, causing damage, before speeding away.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office located the car initially but the driver fled once again. State police later located the vehicle at a residence in Pleasant Valley and arrested the driver, identified as 37-year-old Nicholas Karas.

Karas faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and unlawful fleeing. The car was impounded, and he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
