A former Mamaroneck music teacher accused of sexually abusing his students pleaded guilty in a White Plains courthouse Thursday.
Omar Rodriguez, 27, was fired from the Hommocks Middle School in April after a 16-year-old girl told police he sexually abused her. Since then, more girls came forward with stories of inappropriate touching. Rodriguez was also charged with statutory rape in one case. He pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, which involved an 11-year-old girl at the school.
The judge issued 10 orders of protection for the other girls involved. Rodriguez must give up his teacher?s license and register as a sex offender. The judge says the plea deal was to spare the girls the trauma of a trial. Rodriguez is scheduled to be sentenced on January 11.
