The Mount Vernon Department of Public Works has a plan to make drivers as safe as possible on the roads if they have to be out in bad weather.
Mount Vernon DPW Commissioner Damani Bush says they are preparing snow trucks with sanders and plows ahead of the expected storm.
He says the plan is to have all of the department trucks suited up and ready to go.
Mount Vernon has five new medium-sized trucks this winter that can salt and plow residential streets.
The equipment was purchased with money awarded to the city through the American Rescue Plan.
Bush says they will be watching the temperature Friday, which is expected to drop below freezing. He says the biggest challenge is the rain.
"With the rain, it's kind of hard because you have to judge it by when the rain stops, because if you put the salt out too early the rain will just wash it away," he says.
The goal is to avoid what happened back in 2018 when a November snowstorm froze roadways, paralyzing traffic and causing cars to slip, slide and crash.
"This time around, we are just being a little bit more proactive to make sure we are ready for whatever happens," says Bush.
