Students are back at school Monday in Mahopac following Friday?s bomb scare in which 3,000 students were evacuated.

The evacuation was ordered after a suspicious backpack was found under a stairwell with wires hanging out of it. The principal and superintendent decided to evacuate the high school, but since the middle school and elementary school share the campus on Baldwin Place Road, all 3,000 staff members and students were told to evacuate.

Officials spent the weekend determining who was responsible for leaving the backpack out in the open. They say although the backpack was not meant to be a real bomb, it was meant to be mischievous.

Mahopac School Superintendent Dr. Robert Reidy says school officials now know the identity of the student.

?If you're thinking about things like bomb threats or pulling a fire alarm, understand that it is very serious. It is a felony in the eyes of the law,? Reidy says.

Officials aren't releasing the identity of the student.
