Mahopac School District Superintendent Thomas Manko announced his resignation on Friday, and the man chosen as his replacement has rejected the job offer.
The man asked to replace Manko, John Kopicki, said he could not take the job due to "personal" reasons. As of now, there is no permanent replacement for Manko, who is leaving the job in July.
The news is the latest in a series of events that have tarnished the district's image. In February, a series of racially-charged tweets surfaced online that were sent by Mahopac teens after a basketball game against Mount Vernon.
In response, eight students were suspended, Mahopac High School basketball coach Kevin Downes resigned and the Mahopac School District created a task force to teach students the importance of racial tolerance.
The search is now being reopened to find a new superintendent for the 2015-16 school year.
