A West Babylon native claimed the top prize in a reality show that airs on the History Channel.
Brandon Hyner is the newest winner of "Forged by Fire," the show where contestants compete to make the best knife or sword.
"When they announced my name saying I won, I was absolutely in awe," Hyner says.
He says that he added new styles to his knives and new techniques to wow the judges.
Hyner won the competition six months ago but couldn't tell anyone until the episode aired on Wednesday.
"Finally getting to let them know how well I did was amazing," Hyner says.
He says it was rewarding just to be on the show to represent his town, Long Island and New York.
Hyner won $10,000 on the show and says he plans to use it to buy more bladesmithing equipment and put some money toward buying a new car.
